Starting an Ironing Business from Home

Starting an ironing business is a great way of earning some extra income, while working from home. Setting up couldn’t be easier, and once you have your first customer you should be able to build up a nice client base by word of mouth alone. Below are some guidelines on how to get started.

As you can imagine, you don’t need a lot of pricey equipment to get started. In fact all you need is a good iron, ironing board and some patience. Oh, and a website. A website always helps attract new customers. Make sure you go for a good iron that will last. Advertise in the classified Ads section of your local newspaper, and in local shops. Ask your friends to spread the word, and get your website up and running.

Keeping overheads low will mean you will be able to make maximum profit from the services you offer. Don’t make your services too cheap, but do make them competitive. After all, it will be more difficult to compete with long established companies, if you are more expensive than they are.

The nice thing about running an ironing business is that you can work from home, and be your own boss. Set up an area or room in your house where you feel comfortable. Remember to take rest breaks, and maybe listen to some music to help pass the time.

There are many services you will be able to offer once you have established yourself in your local area. As well as a basic ironing service, you may (depending on your resources and skills) be able to offer dry cleaning and alteration services. These will fit perfectly into your existing business model, as you will have already built up the client base needing these services. Adding these services will help increase your current list of clients, along with bringing in some extra cash.

The beauty of working for yourself, and running an ironing business is you can work around your current lifestyle and commitments. As long as you deliver the work in the agreed timescale, you are free to dictate how, where and when you work. This said, running an ironing business also means you have to work around your clients. If many of them work during the day, you will have to be willing to collect and return clothing items early in the morning, or later in the evening.
